DumaTau, a beloved Wilderness Safaris Camp since 1997, is taking another step forward in its journey. We’re thrilled to announce that we’re upgrading DumaTau and creating Little DumaTau – two Premier Camps in the wonder-filled Linyanti Wildlife Reserve!

These two camps are situated on the finest site for wildlife, conservation and life-changing experiences along the entire Linyanti and Savute Channel – and arguably in northern Botswana. Style and elegance blend with a sense of off-the-beaten-track exploration to make DumaTau so well loved amongst our travel partners and guests.

About the camps

DumaTau and Little DumaTau are sister camps, with Little DumaTau located north of the current DumaTau. Between the two will be a new wellness space and spa looking out over the water, where guests can relax during the heat of the day: lie at the lap pool on the shaded deck, enjoy snacks from the deli and browse the trading store.

The architecture and interiors will remain true to the essence of DumaTau – that of Botswana’s bygone eras, ancient migratory paths and the age of exploration.

Ever since its rebuild, our guests have loved the new-old design. The fire deck continues to be a highlight for guests as they are almost immersed in the Linyanti River, a fire crackling at their feet...

Being a Premier experience, there are a number of enhancements.

The rooms will double in size and include a comfortable lounge. The bathrooms will be larger with indoor and outdoor showers. Cooling systems, ventilations and more shade will all add to the comfort levels of the rooms. Each room will now have a more expansive deck as well as a plunge pool.

The main area too brings new elements, for example its own fire pit, an outside dining area and a “curiosity room” where our guests can explore, browse, read and be enveloped by the wealth of wildlife and rich history of research across the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve.

Then there’s the Star Bed – sleeping under the immense expanse of the southern skies, the sounds of Africa all around – allows guests to feel the change in perspective, and find their place in the universe.

Why do we love the Linyanti?

The Linyanti in northern Botswana is a must-see spectacle, filled with varied habitats, prolific and diverse wildlife and wonderful scenery – together forming a fascinating contrast to the Okavango.

Over 100 000 hectares (300 000 acres) of woodland, grasslands, unusual watercourses, exclusive 44 km of the iconic Savute Channel and the Linyanti Swamps shared between just four intimate camps – DumaTau, King’s Pool, Savuti and Linyanti Tented Camp – create an unrivalled atmosphere of remoteness and space.

Every guest is a conservationist

Finally, as DumaTau is between two important elephant corridors, elephant conservation takes pride of place here. By staying here, seeing herd after herd of elephants as they wind their way along ancient paths, and learning more about these animals – and the others that share their home – our guests can take part in their protection.

DumaTau will close on 01 November 2019.

Both DumaTau and Little DumaTau will open on 01 August 2020.
